The World Cup of Cars

Posted By Birmingham Auto Break on 09/08/2018

It’s a World Cup summer and everyone in the country has gone football mad. So, here at Birmingham AutoBreak, where you can scrap your cars for cash, we’ve seen cars from all over the world and we thought about who would win in a car world cup? We looked at some of the significant statistics and car-producing countries and we drew up our own list of finals!

The criteria

Like the actual world cup, some nations just don’t qualify for our world cup of cars. For instance, countries such as Ukraine and Egypt produce less than 10,000 cars per year and their vehicles aren’t very well known (the ZAZ anyone?). Other nations may produce more in number, but the quality of some of these cars wouldn’t let them qualify. So, we’re looking at the finest cars these countries export and seeing who would win that battle.

The contenders

The biggest manufacturer does not the best make, as China manufactures around 30 million cars annually but most of them stay well within their vast borders. So, we’ve listed the following eight car producing nations where their vehicles are well known, not only in their own countries. These are the cars that win awards.

  • France
  • Germany
  • Italy
  • Japan
  • United Kingdom
  • United States of America
  • South Korea
  • Sweden

Who wins each category?

Most cars produced annually: The USA produced over 11 million vehicles last year, with Japan following with almost 10 million vehicles. Germany takes third place at 5.6 million and South Korea comes in fourth with just over four million. Sweden loses this round as they produced 225,000 cars, but watch out for them later. (1. USA 2. Japan 3. Germany 4. South Korea 5. France 6. United Kingdom 7. Italy 8. Sweden)

Star players: Our own country has a number of high performance players in the car ranks, such as Aston Martin, Jaguar and Land Rover. It even has some historically good names including Bentley and Rolls Royce. Germany has a number of stars, with Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Porsche and Volkswagen in their stable. Italy bring the style with names like Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati. The U.S.A can’t be discounted with Chevrolet, Dodge and Cadillac on their side and bringing Tesla into the game has changed everything. South Korea loses this round as their Hyundai and Kia just don’t have the reliability of Sweden’s Saab and Volvo. For sheer power and substance, Germany wins the round (1. Germany 2. USA 3. UK 4. Italy 5. Japan 6. France 7. Sweden 8. South Korea

Fastest: If you want to win, you’re going to have to play some quick ball and here we look at which nation’s car are the fastest on the road. Sweden dominate with the Koenigsegg Agera RS topping out at 278 mph. France are pipped to the post at 268 mph with the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport whilst Japan limp into last place with their Nissan GT-R Nismo only reaching 195 mph. (1. Sweden 2. France 3. USA 4. UK 5. Italy 6. Germany 7. South Korea 8. Japan)

Awards: With 35 awards in different categories for World Car of the Year (Performance, Design, Luxury, Urban, Green and overall) Germany outright wins this category. 11 awards allow Japan into second place whilst South Korea is effectively disqualified with no awards for their cars! (1. Germany 2. Japan 3. UK 4. USA 5. Italy 6. France 7. Sweden 8. South Korea)

The winner

Germany wins the cup, as they’ve won two categories outright. Japan just creeps into second as they took second place twice and the USA take third place as they have placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th in different categories. Fair points?

So, if you’re looking for reliability it seems Germany are the winners, but if you want a bit more fun and flair then Italy or France might surprise. It’s just a bit of fun really but at Birmingham AutoBreak scrap yard you’ll find reliable car parts for all makes of car (Ok, maybe not a Bugatti Veyron, but we’ll accept it if you have!)
